Stefano Coletti to drive for Scuderia-Toro Rosso at young drivers test in Abu Dhabi – Formula 1 news
Stefano Coletti has been confirmed to drive for Scuderia-Toro Rosso at the test run scheduled at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix during the three-day young driver test at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The 22-year-old GP2 driver has been associated with Trident this season and has been successful in clinching two amazing triumphs for the team. The driver has also been showcasing his talent at other avenues, such as GP3, Formula BMW, Formula Renault and
Formula 3 where his performance has been quite noteworthy.
This season, however, ended soon for this Monegasque when he had to retire early after a terrible crash at the Belgian GP in August that left him badly injured.
Coletti has fully recovered now and recently took part in GP2 testing in Spain in October 2011. Furthermore, he is in perfect shape right to drive a Formula 1 car which is why he has been selected by the Faenza-based squad to take part in the YDT. He has
also taken part in the recently held race at Barcelona.
Expressing his thoughts over his selection, Coletti said on Twitter page, “I'm happy to finally announce that I'll be testing with Toro Rosso in Abu Dhabi. I'm on my way to the Toro Rosso headquarters. Going to make my seat and meet all the guys.”
It is also because of the excellent driving skills of this young driver that he has been displaying at a number of occasions during his career that Toro Rosso approached him to conduct a demo run for the team right after the penultimate race of 2011 which
is scheduled to take place next weekend. The young drivers test is set to take place from November 15-17, soon after the Abu Dhabi GP.
The Toro Rosso team is currently tied with Sauber with 41 points on the 2011 Formula 1 constructors’ standings. The team is hoping that they might be able climb up on the rankings to beat their rivals Sauber and Force India-Mercedes in the upcoming races.
With two races still remaining, whether they will be able to bounce back and make it to the 7th or 6th spot before this season finally comes an end, we have yet to see.
