Stefano Domenicali, Aldo Costa and Pat Fry head back to Maranello to sort pace issue – Formula 1
Ferrari masterminds, Principal Stefano Domenicali, technical director Aldo Costa and assistant Pat Fry are all back at the Maranello factory to sort out the speed issues in the new Ferrari car. President of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo also commented that
Ferrari’s new car is not showing the exact pace which was expected.
Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso have not been able to challenge the top three teams, Red Bull, McLaren and Renault, because the new Ferrari 150° Italia is slower than the pre-season testing session results. In the Australian Grand Prix Alonso was behind
Vitaly Petrov and was fighting for the third place but his car was slower than the new Renault car.
In the Malaysian Grand Prix, Alonso was fighting for the podium with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton when they both had a crash and Ferrari’s dream of a podium was once again jeopardised. Alonso also had a problem with his movable rear wing and drove the car in
a conventional way in the Malaysian Grand Prix, but was well off pace than race leader, Sebastian Vettel.
Ferrari team commented that the Heads are back into the factory to find out the main problem in the speed concerns. “The No 1 priority is still naturally enough, an investigation into the aerodynamics and on finding out why the cars' performance on track
does not match the numbers produced by the wind tunnel,” said team Ferrari.
Alonso and Massa are currently fifth and sixth respectively in the overall standings. Ferrari owner Luca commented about the Ferrari’s performance and said that, “I am certainly not happy with how the season has started but I have extraordinary confidence
in people who, in difficult times, know how to react.” Luca added that team is working hard and will show results in the near future.
Talking about the incident involving Alonso and Hamilton, Luca stated that the race steward’s decision was harsh because both drivers did not do anything outside the rules.
The next race is scheduled for 17 April in Shanghai.
