Stefano Domenicali: Adrian Newey the difference between Red Bull and other teams – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team Principal Stefano Domenicali has hailed Red Bull technical director Adrian Newey and said that the experienced and reputed engineer makes the difference for his team.
Stefano, whose team is struggling to find the right footing in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, has said that the legendary race engineer, Newey and his whole team are the reason for Red Bull’s performance in the 2011 season so far.
Domenicali stated, “Its true, Red Bull has built a better car, why? Because Adrian Newey is simply more creative. We need to improve on this. For me it's a fact that Newey makes the difference between Red Bull and the other teams. He and his technicians
do a better job.”
His comments about Newey come in the wake of Ferrari’s poor performance in the 2011 season so far. The legendary Italian car manufacturing team Ferrari have completely failed to live up to their name in the season. Their drivers, two-time champion Fernando
Alonso and Brazilian Felipe Massa, have failed to show competitiveness in the opening three races of the season.
Furthermore, Sebastian Vettel has hinted that his move to any other team is tied with Adrian Newey. Domenicali might be looking for a double change if he decides to rope in Vettel in future.
Newey, the man behind seven constructors’ championships with three different teams, has made the real difference in the Red Bull team. Newey developed the 2010 Red Bull car which won both championships that season.
Stefano further said that the Formula 1 cars are becoming highly dependent on the aerodynamic capability for more speed, which should be restricted as it makes the car more dangerous.
“We need to begin talking between teams and with the FIA. Aerodynamics accounts for 90 per cent of a car's performance, and in my opinion that's not sustainable,” commented Domenicali.
Nevertheless, the season continues in Turkey this weekend after a gap of three weeks and it will be interesting to see how Newey responds to Domenicali’s comments.
