Stefano Domenicali: Felipe Massa’s replacement should be a young, talented driver – Formula 1 news
It seems that Felipe Massa’s chances of staying at Ferrari are quite low now as the team’s principal Stefano Domenicali has recently stated the replacement for the Brazilian driver should be young and talented.
There are rumours that Lewis Hamilton might join Ferrari alongside his ‘nemesis’ Fernando Alonso which is quite unlikely but by the looks of it, both the team and Hamilton are interested in such an outcome.
However, Domenicali ruled out such developments recently and stated that the team already has an experienced driver and that is Alonso.
“I don't think the question will arise neither in the short nor in the long term. For the Ferrari of the future, I believe the right combination is to have one well established driver with great experience, alongside a talented youngster on the way up,”
said the team principal.
Alonso will be a part of the team until the end of 2016 at least and he claims that he is happy with Felipe Massa as his teammate despite the fact that he has been criticised a lot since his return back in 2010.
“I am very happy to have Felipe as a team-mate and we work very well together. If the day arrives when someone else was to come here, that would not be a problem for me, even if it was Hamilton,” said the Spaniard.
Domenicali claims that Massa is quick but he needs to improve in terms of consistency as his results are quite unreliable which is not what Ferrari want at the moment. Since Massa did not perform up to the mark in the 2010 Formula 1 season, Ferrari were
nowhere near the leaders of the constructors’ standings keeping in mind that Alonso was leading the drivers’ standings until the very last race of the season.
This clearly means that even though Ferrari have a pretty good car, Massa has not been able to score good results as a result of which, his future with the team is currently hanging in the balance.
