Stefano Domenicali: Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel can be Ferrari teammates – Formula 1 news
Ferrari principal Stefano Domenicali believes that Fernando Alonso will have no apprehensions over Sebastian Vettel joining Ferrari in the future.
It was only a fortnight ago that Ross Brawn talked about Vettel going down the same rout as Michael Schumacher and join a team with a less competitive car to prove he is up there with the legends of Formula 1, just like when Schumacher joined Ferrari and
turned them into title winners.
Now that Felipe Massa’s contract is ending in 2013, speculation has grown over who will partner Fernando Alonso. There were also reports of Vettel expressing his desire to drive for Ferrari one day.
Although he dismissed them later, and said he had no plans to move at the moment, Red Bull’s owner Dietrich Mateschitz and advisor Helmut Marko have said that Vettel wants to drive for Ferrari some day. However, they said that they will offer him a deal
which will make it very difficult for him to leave.
Marko has also shown his desire to extend Vettel’s contract up to the 2016 season. Vettel, on the other hand, has expressed his desire to run for the Scarlet car on quite a few occasions in the past.
Now that Vettel is a double world champion, Domenicali has sparked more controversy as he said that he does not feel that Alonso would have any issues over Vettel being his teammate.
“Would Alonso accept it? I think so, I think it could work,” Domenicali told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Fernando's strength is that he is not afraid of anyone, a force that comes from his maturity.”
On the other hand, Domenicali also feels that 2012 would be a good opportunity for Felipe Massa to push for a new deal, while Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is also very interested in the seat as well.
It would be very interesting to see how Vettel perceives this statement from Domenicali and whether he makes a decision to join the Scarlet team or not.
