Stefano Domenicali: Ferrari must strive at its best – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has advised his team to strive at its best in order to enhance the pace of the car and to keep up their standing in this year’s championship.
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso’s impressive and an unexpected victory at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix on wet track conditions plus his fifth place finish in the season opener after starting from the 12th position in the grid have placed him at the top of the
drivers’ championship in this season so far with 35 points.
Moreover, the Scarlet team after struggling throughout the pre-season this year expressed that they might lack competitiveness in the first few races of the season. Nevertheless, after the incredible performance of the Spaniard, Alonso the Red team is on
third place in the constructors’ standings until now.
However, Alonso said that the victory at Sepang in the second race has changed nothing for the team as they still got a lot of work to do in order to improve their performance in the normal conditions for the races ahead.
Furthermore, Domenicali also stated that they need to ‘push to the maximum’ so as to make the essential developments and substantial preparations for the season ahead.
“I asked all my people to push to the maximum to try and bring forward as much as possible the developments planned for the next few races,” Domenicali told the official Ferrari website. “Having Fernando leading the championship means nothing and we definitely
don't think all our problems have been made to vanish with the wave of a magic wand.”
Besides, there have been many speculations regarding struggling Felipe Massa’s replacement with Sergio Perez of Sauber who has secured the second podium finish at the second GP and showed an inspiring performance.
Nonetheless, Domenicali said that they will provide Massa with everything he may need in order to improve his performance for the upcoming races. In addition, the Brazilian driver changed his plan of going to see his family in Brazil and headed towards the
team’s factory in Maranello, where he will work with the engineers to recognize and improve his performance deficiencies.
