Stefano Domenicali: Ferrari need only small improvements in pace to fight for 2012 title – Formula 1
Ferrari principal Stefano Domenicali has said that his team needs only small improvement in pace to fight for the 2012 Formula 1 championship.
Domenicali added that after getting the 2011 Suzuka race results, they believe Ferrari need a small amount of progress to be transformed to the 2012 F1 season.
The team principal commented, “So we need to be spot on in the preparation of the car without getting too anxious of being so far behind. That means we are maybe closer than what we were thinking and we need to, on the other side, make sure everything is
under control in terms of development and in terms of the baseline of the car.”
Domenicali further said that the tyre performance is still a crucial element to understand for the 2012 fight.
Apart from that, he discussed the team driver Fernando Alonso’s performance in the 2011 Suzuka race. He mentioned that they are very impressed with their Japanese Grand Prix results, as they were not expecting to be so competitive at the Suzuka racetrack.
In addition, he stated that Suzuka race results were the best one in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, as they were very close to their rivals including McLaren and Red Bull Racing.
Domenicali went on to say, “As far as we understood both McLaren and Red Bull brought some new pieces, new parts in the last couple of races, so there is something that is not clear about how this is possible.”
The Maranello-based outfit driver Alonso had a good race weekend in Japan, where he managed his race at the second position at the Suzuka circuit.
The team was very impressed with Alonso’s Japanese Grand Prix show. Domenicali added that they are still looking forward to their second position in the championship battle.
Alonso is placed at the third position with 202 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship following his podium finish in Japan.
The 16th round of the ongoing season will start from Friday, October 14 at the Korean International Circuit.
Let’s see how Alonso manages the Korean Grand Prix this weekend.
