Stefano Domenicali admits Ferrari’s lack of performance at 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has admitted their lack of performance at the Marina Bay this past weekend during the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso was unable to keep Mark Webber behind him while defending the 3rd place and even Felipe Massa was unable to make his way through the traffic after his collision with Lewis Hamilton.
“The result itself is not a surprise, but the performance definitely was, and in a bad way. We were slower than we expected and we must carefully analyse the reasons why things turned out this way. It will be a useful exercise for the coming races and also
when looking to the future,” said Domenicali.
Alonso and Webber’s battle at first was quite fierce but since the beginning, it was quite clear that the Australian driver’s RB7 was much faster as a result of which his overtake over the Spaniard was just a matter of time.
That is the reason why the team principal of Ferrari is quite disappointed with his team’s pace and even their technical director Pat Fry stated that the team had a very surprising finish to the Singapore Grand Prix.
“We have to be honest and accept that this result reflects the relative strengths of the teams at the moment. Our car is third best and to finish fourth is more or less what we might have expected,” said Fry.
Massa on the other hand collided with Hamilton’s McLaren after which he was dragged back in 12th place as both of the drivers had to make a pit stop for repairs.
However, it was quite disappointing to see the Brazilian driver struggling to make his way past the mid-field keeping in mind that Lewis quite effectively went on to finish in a strong 5th place.
Felipe finished in 9th place and for this disappointing finish, he blamed Hamilton despite the fact that both of the drivers faced almost the same amount of deficit. It was quite clear that Massa’s driving skills were
also not up to the mark.
