Stefano Domenicali backs up Fernando Alonso for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has praised the performance of their driver, Fernando Alonso in the 2012 Formula 1 season and has encouraged him to fight back in the next year.
Domenicali said that they struggled a lot with the design of their car during the start of the season and expected to face immense difficulties in the opening few races. Nevertheless, Alonso performed exceptionally well even with an incompetent car and efficiently
limited the damage for his team.
Furthermore, the Spaniard led the championship for quite a long time in this season and was considered as the strongest title contender. However, he lost his lead to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing because of facing unfortunate retirements in a couple
of races.
Though, he fought tremendously well until the end of the season, but he lost the championship title to Vettel, just by three points.
On the other hand, the veteran German driver also performed really well to win his third successive world championship title and seemed unbeatable towards the end of the season with the fastest car.
The Italian has said that the result of this season has been very disappointing for the 31-year-old who was the most deserving title contender. Nonetheless, he said that their veteran driver will soon recover from the distress and will definitely hit back
in the next season.
Besides, he also admired the performance of the 25-year-old who also fought really well until the last round of the season.
“It is not easy when you do such an incredible season to lose in that condition,” Domenicali said. “But the strength of a champion is to make sure that in this break you recharge and once again be the best. If you put yourself in his shoes, he knows and
he knew at that stage he would have deserved the Championship. Honestly. That's without putting any negative words on Sebastian he won and so he deserved that.”
“But if you look at the way [Alonso] performed since first race, with a very difficult car in beginning, then was able to maximise every time,” he added.
