Stefano Domenicali believes 2012 F1 championship is a fight amongst three drivers – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali believes that 2012 Formula 1 championship is a fight amongst three main rivals which include their driver Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Although, it is extremely hard to make any kind of predictions for the upcoming season as there have been seven different winners in the first seven races. However, Domenicali thinks that the ultimate battle for the title will be fought by the three world
champion drivers.
“I think that at the end of the day, I believe looking at how things are, championship can be a fight between Fernando, Lewis and Sebastian,” he explained. “That is what I feel but everyone knows something before each race, and then changes their mind after
race. Maybe after Valencia situation will be different. But honestly, I think championship could evolve into a fight between first three drivers.”
The 2008 world champion, Hamilton is presently leading the drivers’ championship after winning the Canadian GP held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10. Moreover, he is 2 points ahead of Alonso who has a lead of just 1 point over Vettel.
Even though, the Spaniard seemed strong in the last race as he maintained the lead for quite a long time after beginning from third grid position. Conversely, his gamble of relying on one pit stop strategy didn’t prove out to be successful and he could only
secure fifth place finish after losing his position during the ending laps.
Nonetheless, the two-time world champion expressed that he is not feeling upset on his uncompetitive position in the last race and is aiming to deliver his best in the season ahead.
Besides, Domenicali said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races. In addition, he said that they are trying their best so as to improve the pace of their car for the approaching season in order to fight for the championship
title.
“The only thing is to keep pushing and to put performance on car. Up to the moment where at least we will not be in pole position, we cannot be happy,” he said.
