Stefano Domenicali believes 2012 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship is still open – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali believes that they can win the 2012 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship too as it is still open.
Fernando Alonso of the Scarlet team secured an impressive third podium finish in the Italian Grand Prix after taking a start from 10th grid slot. Moreover, the Spaniard has scored 179 points in the season so far and has tremendously limited the
probable damage for his team which expected to struggle in the first few grands prix.
Furthermore, the two-time world champion is currently leading the drivers’ championship with a strong lead over his main rivals, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Domenicali has expressed that he is extremely pleased with the performance of Alonso in the season until now and is very much contended with his lead in the drivers’ standings.
On the other hand, even though the defending champions have a superb lead over Ferrari in the constructors’ rankings. Nevertheless, the Italian has said that after the retirement of Vettel and his teammate, Mark Webber in the preceding race, their hopes
to claim the constructors’ title have become alive.
In addition, he said that they have made some commendable improvements in their car as the season has progressed. Besides, he said that after the previous race, they have gained a lot more confidence in their skills and they are highly motivated to fight
for both the championship titles this year.
"It was important for us that because of the retirement of Red Bull [in Italy], the constructors' situation is difficult but still open for the four top teams that are still there," he said. "It is another motivation and motivating factor for all of us because
we are performing the best way that we can."
At present, the Italian team is standing at third place in the constructors’ standings with 226 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Lotus and are behind their major rival, McLaren who are well in form.
Above and beyond, it will be thrilling to see how Alonso and his teammate, Felipe Massa perform in the remaining races.
