Stefano Domenicali believes Fernando Alonso deserved the title – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali believes that their driver, Fernando Alonso deserved to win the 2012 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship and expressed that they are very proud of the Spaniard.
Alonso performed remarkably well throughout the season and secured an incredible second podium finish in the epic finale in Brazil. However, he lost his championship title to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing by three points.
Although, Domenicali said that they are very upset over the result because the 31-year-old was the most deserving title contender. Nevertheless, he praised the performance of their star driver and admired his tremendous driving skills.
In addition, he said that even though they could not achieve their target to claim the title in this season, but their hopes are high and they are looking forward to come up stronger in the next year.
“We are proud of him and we are very disappointed because I think that the one that deserved the championship was really him,” Domenicali said. “It's a shame, because after such a long season that we really fight in those conditions, we finish race 20 being
second and three points off. That hurts a lot but that's the way it is. Sometimes it's a sign of the destiny that you can really appreciate what is the direction of wind, because after seeing outcome of first lap we felt maybe. But for sure we will have to
do a better job next year.”
Besides, he said that the two-time world champion has performed well even with an incompetent car which proves that he has got some extraordinary talent. He also said that their aim is to provide Alonso with the most competitive car in the coming year so
that he may be able to win the title.
Additionally, he appreciated the efforts of his team and said that they are targeting to fight back in the next season.
The Scarlet team secured an impressive second position in this year’s constructors’ championship and remained ahead of their main rival, McLaren.
It will be interesting to see how they show up in the next season.
