Stefano Domenicali believes Fernando Alonso is the fastest driver – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali believes that their driver, Fernando Alonso is the fastest driver in 2012 Formula 1 season.
The Italian team struggled with the design of F2012 throughout the pre-season testing programme this year. Furthermore, it will be important to note that the technical director of Ferrari, Pat Fry even ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the
season opener and expressed that they would face difficulties in the first few races.
Nonetheless, after the first seven races, Domenicali said that Alonso has successfully limited the damage for his team regardless of a difficult start while he said that they are feeling very much pleased with their performance in the season so far.
However, he said that they need to keep on working hard to make the necessary advancements and the substantial preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the approaching races in order to fight for this year’s championship title.
“Alonso is the fastest driver of all, I'm sure of that and it's been like that since testing at the start of the year, despite the fact our car was definitely not very quick,” Domenicali said. “Now we have improved it, even if we are not yet at the level
we want to be. The cars are very close and we are witnessing a really incredible championship which for the fans is a real spectacle.”
The two-time world champion has performed amazingly well in the season until now. He took an incredible victory in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia after setting off from 8th grid position in rainy conditions. Additionally,
he secured impressive second and third podium finishes in the fifth and sixth grands prix.
At present, the Spaniard is standing at second position in the drivers’ championship with 86 points. In addition, he is 2 points behind the leading driver, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and just 1 point ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red
Bull Racing.
Over and above, he is confidently looking forward to perform well in the European GP which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
