Stefano Domenicali believes Ferrari will be in the race for 2012 championship – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali is ‘encouraged’ that the Scarlet team will be in the tussle for the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season setting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this weekend.
The Red team had launched a drastic new car F2012 for the forthcoming season in order to reduce the gap with the top contenders but unfortunately, they have been facing difficulties throughout the pre-season testing programme and turned back to an exhaust
design which had lesser potential for the performance.
After the last pre-season test at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, the technical director of Ferrari, Pat Fry expressed disappointing remarks that they could not be able to fight for the podium in the first Grand Prix. However, Domenicali seems to be much
more optimistic while heading towards Australia.
“Everyone is eager to get going with a new challenge,” Domenicali told the official Ferrari website. “It's going to be a very long season and, at least as far as see it, a very unpredictable one: there are many teams who look like being in the hunt, especially
in the early stages.”
Furthermore, Felipe Massa had also shown his confidence regarding the podium finish at the first race despite the struggling pre-season this year.
In addition, Domenicali said that they would reach Australia while keeping in mind that they had not been able to meet their desired targets concerning the performance of the car for the season ahead which they had been discussing over the last week. Nevertheless,
he said that they still needed to wait for few days before they would know where they stand in the championship.
He also said that he was encouraged that they would definitely be in the fight for the title which he said during the last year that if they happened to perform well at the first GP, they would not be highlighting themselves just as they must not feel dejected
if they won’t be competent enough.
Besides, he said that they should keep their focus on making the necessary improvements and the substantial preparations for the approaching season.
“All we must do is stay focussed on the job of developing the car. The championship does not end until the end of November, which is something we should never forget,” he added.
