Stefano Domenicali claims Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher only two leading Formula 1 drivers
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has recently stated that only Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher are the leading drivers in Formula 1 despite the fact that Sebastian Vettel is currently leading the championship comfortably in 2011.
Vettel will secure his second championship if he wins the 2011 Formula 1 championship which is quite likely to happen.
“Really, there are only two and they are Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher. I see no others. Vettel is still not a leader. He is on the way there but he is still not as far as Michael and Fernando. He is simply too young and still has to gain experience,”
he said.
Alonso has not been able to perform at his best yet again with Ferrari mainly because of the fact that the team failed to produce a championship-winning car while Red Bull Racing have produced outstanding cars in 2010 and 2011.
Both McLaren and Ferrari have not been able to cope up with their pace and one has to admit that pulling out great performances from a weaker car is not as easy as it seems.
Alonso led the 2010 championship until the final race of the season but unfortunately failed to secure a sufficient amount of points in order to retain his lead and win the championship.
It was an extremely disappointing moment in his career as he could have won his third Formula 1 title but unfortunately for him, Vettel took the title after securing an amazing win ahead of all his rivals.
“But with all due respect, they have a title, we have 16. If Red Bull wins half as many as we have then perhaps we need to rethink. The question is who has the better foundation. We are currently building a new Ferrari and then we'll start a great period,”
said Domenicali.
Michael Schumacher on the other hand has not been able to perform at his best since his return in 2010 and Mercedes GP have not been able to provide him with a promising car either.
