Stefano Domenicali claims Ferrari’s reliability issues one off – Formula 1 News
Stefano Domenicali has claimed that Ferrari will not have any reliability problems in the future events and the front left suspension failure on Felipe Massa’s car in Monaco was an ‘isolated’ event.
The Italian squad was really confident before the previous round of the 2013 Formula 1 season, but things did not work out for them as planned. Although they appeared to be strong during the practice sessions, things were completely
opposite in terms of qualifying and race pace.
Massa did not really get the opportunity to prove his worth in Monaco, as he was involved in two major crashes during the weekend. The first one happened during P3, which rule him out of the qualifiers. That incident was caused
because of a driving error and there were no faults found in the car.
However, the Brazilian ended up in the barriers on race day because of suspension failure and suffered minor injuries too.
Looking at that, Domenicali said, “Of course we also focussed on the problems we had with reliability, which absolutely had to be resolved. What is sure is that the team is completely motivated and we are determined to regard what
happened in Monaco as an isolated incident.”
Since the season is expected to be a close one, it is extremely important for all of the teams to continue finishing in points regularly. None of the top teams can afford losing points because of reliability issues.
However, the Maranello based outfit was not only affected by the technical problems, as the car was simply too slow and lacked traction, which is necessary on a track like Monte Carlo.
Domenicali was confident that Ferrari would be strong in Canada though. He added, “I think the Montreal circuit should allow us to exploit those strong points such as braking, which is a key factor at this track, so let's hope
that works in our favour. However, on the other hand, we must ensure we keep working on the areas where our car is not yet where it should be.”
At the moment, Red Bull are leading the Constructor’s Championship, but are not in a dominant position. The reigning champions will have to make continuous progress throughout the year in order to stay ahead of rivals like Ferrari
and Lotus.
