Stefano Domenicali expects McLaren to strike back in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they need to keep on working hard as he is expecting McLaren to strike back in the season ahead.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari claimed the pole position in the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit and secured second podium finish in the race. Moreover, he is leading the drivers’ championship with 129 points ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Felipe Massa also performed quite convincingly and secured fourth place finish in the last race after setting off from fifth place in the grid.
Furthermore, after the race, Domenicali expressed that he is very much pleased with the performance of both their drivers.
On the other hand, McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton could only secure 8th place finish after qualifying for the same grid position while his teammate, Jenson Button came 10th in the preceding race.
Nonetheless, Domenicali said that they must work hard to make the considerable advancements to enhance the pace of F2012 as he is believes that the Woking based team will bounce back in the forthcoming races.
“It's very tough,” he said. “It is great to see that Fernando is still in the lead of the drivers' championship. And it is, from the sporting point of view, good to see Lewis losing some points and Sebastian too. It's also good to see Felipe having a great
performance today because in the constructors' championship we are now second. I'm sure that McLaren will fight to come back and the others are very close. Today I was impressed by the pace of Lotus and [Romain] Grosjean pitted on the first lap and came back
to sixth.”
Besides, he said that they have been making the best of the efforts to improve the pace of their car and are targeting to win this year’s championship.
The Scarlet team is presently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 152 points behind the defending champions. In addition, they are 8 points ahead of Lotus and have a lead of 10 points over McLaren.
Above and beyond, it will be interesting to see how the season progresses for the Italian team.
