Stefano Domenicali feels contended with Fernando Alonso’s performance in Hungarian GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that he is contended with the performance of their driver, Fernando Alonso who secured fifth place finish after a tough weekend in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Scarlet team struggled with their updated car F2012 during the free practice at Hungaroring in Budapest. Later, they could not secure competitive grid positions for the race in the qualifying.
Nevertheless, Alonso still managed to score 10 points with his fifth position. Moreover, Domenicali admired the performance of the two-time world champion and said that they are very much satisfied with the result of the last race as they were able to increase
their score in the championship fight.
“Fernando did a great race,” said Domenicali. “We knew that we were in defensive mode and to be in front of two cars, Button and Webber, that were faster than us, for us it's very important. Of course, these kinds of races on these kinds of track, where
you are sitting behind, are not easy. Then you have backmarkers and certain situations that cause you to be in traffic. I think that in any case we maximised points considering where we started.”
“Going home having increased the number of points on the second driver in Drivers' Championship is very good,” he added.
Furthermore, the Spaniard is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 164 points and is ahead of Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. Although, he could not achieve competitive results in the preceding race, nonetheless,
he still has got a big lead in the championship.
In addition, he has performed tremendously well for his team in the season so far. He is the first driver who has scored three grands prix victory in the current season and has efficiently limited the expected damage for the Italian team. Besides, he has
claimed two pole positions and three podium finishes.
Over and above, he is unquestionably the strongest contender in this year’s championship battle and it will be extremely thrilling to see how he performs in the forthcoming races after this season’s summer break.
