Stefano Domenicali insists Ferrari must focus to improve their performance – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that if they want to catch up Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing in this year’s championship, they must focus to improve their performance.
The Scarlet team has struggled with some reliability issues in the season so far because of which their driver, Fernando Alonso could not score competitive points in a couple of races.
Nevertheless, he has efficiently limited the damage for his team and has successfully claimed two race victories and two podium finishes in the season so far. However, his best has not been good enough as his main opponent, Vettel is leading the drivers’
championship with 132 points and has performed amazingly well in the first seven races of this season.
However, Domenicali believes that they can catch up the German driver if they work hard to resolve their reliability issues which have hindered their performance in the season until now.
“I cannot look outwards,” Domenicali said. “I have to watch inwards, and make sure that the car has to improve mainly in the day before the race.”
“Sometimes we understand better what we have, sometimes it is the other way around. But it is the challenge that we have to face this year,” he said. “For sure if it happens [Vettel having reliability problems] I will not be crying, but because I am a sporting
man I will not wish him to have problems. I believe that he was very consistent up until now, but this year things may change very quickly,” he added.
In addition, he said that they are positively looking forward to improve their tyre management so that Alonso and his teammate, Felipe Massa can perform well in the forthcoming races.
At present, the Maranello based squad are standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 145 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Mercedes and behind their main rival, Red Bull.
The competition is expected to be even tougher in the season ahead and it will be exciting to see how Ferrari perform in the approaching races and whether they will be able to beat the defending champions or not.
