Stefano Domenicali insists Ferrari must work hard to make necessary developments – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they must keep on working hard to make the necessary developments in their car in order to compete well with their rivals in the season ahead.
The Italian squad have performed convincingly well in the season so far and are currently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship. However, they have faced some reliability issues due to which their drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe
Massa, could not score competitive points in a couple of races as a result of which they lost some crucial points in the championship fight.
Domenicali has said that their opponents have been making some clear step-ups in their cars. Therefore, he insisted that they must push harder to improve the pace of their car to attain strong results in the approaching races.
“We must continue to push on the development of our car,” said Domenicali. “Because our rivals have made clear steps forward.”
In addition, he said that apart from Red Bull Racing, they consider Mercedes as one of their main competitors in this year’s championship after seeing their qualifying pace at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
“Apart from Red Bull, in Montreal, Mercedes was also very competitive, not just in qualifying over a single lap, but also over the whole race distance,” he said.
Besides, he asserted that they need to improve their qualifying speed so that their drivers can secure competitive grid slots for the forthcoming races and can attain competitive results with consistency.
“We must give our drivers the wherewithal to fight for the front two rows of the grid, because that is the key to be able to capitalise on our car's race pace,” he explained.
Additionally, he said that they have considerable time to make the necessary progress before the British GP.
“Now we have a slightly longer than usual gap before the next race in Silverstone,” he added.
He also said that their main focus is to improve their tyre management so as to come up stronger in the approaching races. Let’s see how the Scarlet team performs in the next race at Silverstone on June 30, 2013.
