Stefano Domenicali insists Ferrari need to work with renewed attention – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they need to work with renewed attention to resolve their reliability issues in order to attain competitive
results in the season ahead.
Fernando Alonso of the Scarlet squad could only secure 8th place finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix even after qualifying for third grid slot because he
faced an issue in his DRS twice. Although, he took two pit stops during the race to get his DRS fixed, but the problem remained unsolved.
On the other hand, Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa also struggled with the tyre degradation problem due to which he failed to score even a single point in the last
race.
Domenicali said that the Spaniard could have won the Bahrain GP if he hadn’t faced the DRS issue. In addition, he admired the performance of the two-time world
champion who efficiently limited the damage for his team.
“It's hard to recall a race where so many things went wrong,” Domenicali said. “The DRS failure prevented Fernando, who yet again produced a great performance,
from fighting Vettel for the win.”
Besides, he said that a couple of tyre related issues hindered the performance of Massa in the last race because of which the Brazilian driver could not secure
a competitive position.
“Then for Felipe, there were the two tyre related problems that pushed him out of the points and prevented from getting the top five finish that was within his
grasp. We had the potential to get these results, but we were unable to do so, partly because of external influences,” he said.
Additionally, he said that they need to work harder to prevent the reliability issues which have hampered their performance in the fourth round. He also said that
they must keep on making the essential developments in their car so as to compete well with their rivals in the forthcoming races.
“We must work with renewed attention on this front,” he added. “We must also continue to develop the car.”
At present, the Italian team is standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 77 points. Let’s see how they show up in the approaching races.
