Stefano Domenicali of Ferrari cautious about Lotus in the championship – Formula 1 news
Stefano Domenicali, principal of team Ferrari is cautious about the improving performance of team Lotus.
After the Hungaroring Grand Prix, Lotus were able to get at 3rd place in the constructors’ championship after Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean were able to make it to the podium.
The Italian principal said that he was not surprised at the performance of Raikkonen at Hungaroring because he believes that the Finnish driver has extraordinary driving skills.
Moreover, he added that becoming a world champion requires impressive performances, which Raikkonen has. He said that he had no doubts related to the skills of the Finn.
Domenicali said, “I was not surprised by Kimi's job because I have always said that he's a very talented driver, a very good driver and he's a world champion; you do not become world champion unless you have something special.”
Furthermore, Domenicali said that Lotus have not collected the championship points which they could have because the British team has a good, impressive car and convincing drivers.
Domenicali said, “I think that Lotus did not collect the points that they were able to collect because they always had a very good car since the beginning of the season. So I think they could have scored more points … they will be a very good team in the
second half of the season.”
The principal of Ferrari added that he believes that Lotus will be able to attain more points in the latter half of the season and will be a very good team.
He added that the second half of the current season is expected to be challenging for team Ferrari because several other cars are faster than F2012.
Furthermore, he said that team Ferrari needs to keep improving itself. He added that during German Grand Prix, the Italian team proved itself in all the conditions however, it was not able to prove itself at Hungaroring.
Moreover, he said that Ferrari needs to develop a balance in order to sustain the pole or the first place in a race. He added that if they are unable to maintain that balance other teams will exceed Ferrari in terms of performance and it will become difficult
to get to the leading positions again.
