Stefano Domenicali praises Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa over a hard fought season – Formula 1
Stefano Domenicali admitted that Ferrari were hoping for an even better result at the final race of the season at the Brazil GP.
Ferrari were not up to the mark throughout the season, and part of the reason behind it was their car. The car has had its limitations and the team and the drivers understand that. Still Domenicali has said that even though the result was not unexpected
he had hoped for Alonso to finish in the top three.
Alonso had earlier talked about the race and said that he wanted it to rain during the race which would have made things even for all the drivers. The wet conditions allow the Ferrari to be much more competitive. Similar conditions helped Alonso win at the
British Grand Prix earlier in the 2011 season.
Domenicali praised the winning Red Bull and McLaren drivers, Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel took a one-two finish for their team and Jenson Button came in third.
“Once again, we congratulate those who did a better job than us and we look forward to facing them again next year, when we will try to be the best of the lot. That is our target and we have no intention of hiding the fact,” Domenicali said.
Massa and Hamilton have had a torrid time during the season, which several collisions and had a lot of negativity around each other, though Hamilton for the most part has kept reserved over the issue. He was the one to try and finally put an end to an unhealthy
relationship by coming over to hug the Brazilian after the race.
“We have weeks of hard worked ahead of us and we will only start to see the fruits of our labours in February, when it's time to fire up the engines again. Finally, Lewis came round to see Felipe during his press meeting, which thus puts an end to all the
recent misunderstanding,” Domenicali added.
Ferrari will now be looking into next season, with new regulations in place, there will not be any blown diffusers involved, and so it will change the cars a bit. It remains to be seen whether the Scarlet team can come up with a competitive enough car next
season.
