Stefano Domenicali says F2012 will not be updated until Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Stefano Domenicali says that Ferrari will not be able to run their updated F2012 until the Spanish Grand Prix.
Ferrari have been in midst of much scrutiny over its new F2012 that was hyped to be all that it has not been. Throughout the three pre-season tests, Ferrari have been struggling to find the right balance of the car. It has had quite a few technical difficulties
as well. To make matters worse Ferrari decided midway through the third and final pre-season test that the car needs changes to the exhaust system.
It is a completely different design altogether and so it will take time to develop and streamline with the other mechanics of the car.
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry after the pre-season tests said that he does not expect the new car to even claim any podiums. A notion that President Luca di Montezemolo hopes does not materialise.
Domenicali recently suggested the situation to Italy’s soccer 1982 soccer world cup campaign. He mentioned how the Italian team was down and out in the initial phase of the tournament but succeeded in the end. He said that in time Ferrari will come to the
right balance of the car and will be in contention for the world title.
“The process is long because we need to modify the bodywork,” he told Gazetta dello Sport. “Our technicians need to understand how to intervene with the CFD, then analyse temperatures, prepare the parts and test them.
“We'll only be able to do that at Mugello testing in May,” he confirmed.
“I'm not happy with the car because we haven't reached the goal we had set, not because we are slower than the others. In order to understand where we are we'll in fact need to wait for at least the first four grands prix,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how Ferrari manages to pull out if hole they found themselves in. It has become a critical situation and by the looks of it by the end of the 2012 season, Ferrari will be looking to give an overhaul to its personnel, as a series
of poor performances has led the team to this point. Yet Ferrari have found themselves in all sorts of situations in its long history in the sport and counting them out in any situation is not a wise thing to do.
