Stefano Domenicali says Fernando Alonso did a fantastic job in 2011 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has said that the team driver Fernando Alonso did a fantastic job in the 2011 Italian Grand Prix held on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Monza.
Domenicali added that Alonso had an incredible start to the 2011 Italian race weekend and after that, he performed really well during Sunday’s race. In addition, he stated that after getting the Monza race results, he can say that Ferrari have the best performing
car this year.
After the successful Friday Free Practice sessions, the Spaniard finished his qualifying round at the fourth place ahead of Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber at the Monza racetrack.
The team driver took part in the race with an aim of getting a podium position following his positive qualifying round in Italy. After struggling on the sets of soft and medium compounds, Alonso finished his Grand Prix at the third stair of the podium under
dry conditions.
The Maranello-based outfit was quite impressed with Alonso’s performance throughout the Monza race weekend. However, Domenicali mentioned that the two-time world champion did a good job against their rivals during the Italian Grand Prix.
Domenicali commented, “It is clear that Red Bull Racing is incredibly strong, and McLaren is really strong too. So to see him now he is second in the drivers' championship classification means a lot, considering where we are at the moment, in terms of performance
and the problems we had since the beginning. I think Fernando is doing a fantastic championship.”
He went on to mention, “The only thing we can do is to not focus on it. We must try to maximise what we can do, but now it is clear for Sebastian I would say that he has the chance in his hands.”
The team principal further added that at the moment it is very difficult for Ferrari to win the 2011 Formula 1 championship, as Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel is too far ahead of them in the title fight.
After the Italian race weekend, Ferrari are at the third place behind McLaren with 254 points in 2011 constructors’ championship.
Let’s see how the Scarlet car performs in the last six races of the ongoing season following his podium position in Italy.
