Stefano Domenicali says Fernando Alonso will bounce back from defeat – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s team principal, Stefano Domenicali, has stated that Fernando Alonso will bounce back from losing the F1 championship to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
“It is not easy when you do such an incredible season to lose in that condition,” Domenicali said. “But the strength of a champion is to make sure that in this break you recharge and once again be the best. If you put yourself in his shoes, he knows and
he knew at that stage he would have deserved the championship. Honestly. That's without putting any negative words on Sebastian - he won and so he deserved that.”
Domenicali added that Alonso gave his best performance right from the beginning of the season despite the fact that his car was not as good as it should have been and also he thinks that the Spanish driver was the one to pull off most overtakes. He told
that the reason the driver was so down after the final race was the way he lost his opportunity of winning which he knows does not come by very frequently.
However, Domenicali said that every sportsman should have a hopeful approach or otherwise they will lose all strength and opportunities, and he knows that Alonso will not disappoint in that way. He added that the team has learnt from its mistakes from the
previous season and they are mainly working on the development of the new car but he insisted he is not going to reveal what they are up to through the media as these issues are to be discussed internally.
Domenicali admitted that their rivals, Red Bull Racing, certainly have the best car and if other teams are doing better, then you need to understand why and maximise your performance with what you have.
Meanwhile, Alonso has stated that they not only need a quicker car for the new season but also need to find loopholes in the restricting regulations of the FIA like their rivals in order to double their chances of winning in 2013.
The 2012 F1 season ended with an exciting Brazilian GP where Alonso lost the title by three points.
