Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari happy with Valencia result considering development – Formula 1
Ferrari’s Stefano Domenicali has stated that the team is very much pleased with the performance of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in the European Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Stefano also stated that both drivers fought really hard in Valencia but Massa was a bit unlucky after he had a bad pit-stop and lost the opportunity to fight with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton for fourth position.
Ferrari had one of their best outings in the 2011 Formula 1 season where Alonso was able to take the fight to Red Bull’s Mark Webber right until the chequered flag. The Spaniard finished second in front of his home crowd which was much of a delight for the
fans and Stefano who stated that the race was thrilling.
“It was an exciting and very evenly matched contest: Fernando and Felipe drove great races, fighting right to the end with their main rivals. The Spanish driver, in front of his home fans, managed to end up ahead of a Red Bull to secure a fantastic podium
finish,” stated Stefano.
Felipe Massa had a good start to his race when the Brazilian driver overtook two drivers on the starting grid and was right behind Webber for quite some time. Unfortunately for the Brazilian, his second pit stop was way too slow which cost him some time
and also a track position to Hamilton.
Stefano also stated that Massa’s pit stop was the only grim of the Valencia race weekend.
Further talking about the development of Ferrari, Stefano stated, “We must continue to push on the development of the car in preparation for Silverstone, where we want to confirm the progress we have made at a circuit whose characteristics are less suited
to the 150º Italia.”
Ferrari are still third in the constructors’ table but the gap to the front runners has opened up quite a bit.
The Silverstone Grand Prix weekend will start from July 8, 2011 and Ferrari are expected to be strong there as well.
