Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari know where they need improvements – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they know very well where they need improvements during the winter testing, but insisted that they not will work under media spotlight this time.
The Italian team struggled a lot with the design of F2012 during the start of this season. Besides, their technical director, Pat Fry entirely ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the first race and expected to face issues in the opening few races.
Nonetheless, their driver, Fernando Alonso performed impressively well even with an incompetent car and scored points with admirable consistency throughout the year.
Additionally, he led the drivers’ championship for quite a long time during the season, but failed to maintain his lead because of losing some crucial points due to his unfortunate retirements in a couple of grands prix.
On the other hand, his major rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing had the most competitive car in the field towards the end of the season with which he seemed unbeatable.
Even though, the Spaniard fought really hard until the end. However, he lost the championship title to Vettel, who performed incredibly well in the last few races, by three points only.
Domenicali has said that they are not feeling upset over the result of 2012 and are positively looking forward to make the essential developments during the winter tests so as to come up stronger right from the start of the next season.
“We learned the things that have to be improved, mainly on the development of the car, no doubt, but these things need to be discussed internally,” Domenicali told the BBC. “I don't want to use you, the media, to say what we are doing because this is something
that is not representative of how I want to work, but here in our offices we know what we need to do.”
In addition, he said that their target is to develop a car which can compete well with their main opponents in the coming season.
“So the reference is for sure a different performance level than we had in Ferrari and this is something we have to take as an example to improve,” he added.
