Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari need to improve their qualifying pace – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they need to improve their qualifying pace so as to perform well in the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Scarlet team had quite a successful pre-season testing programme this year as compared to the preceding one in which they failed to create complete understand about their car. Although, they have attained some competitive results in the season so far,
but Domenicali understands that they still lack the needed qualifying pace to compete well with their rivals who have made some strong step-ups in their car over the winter.
The Italian insisted that if they want to attain competitive results with consistency in the forthcoming races, they will have to make some essential advancement in their car in order to improve its qualifying speed.
“It is clear that we are not at the level we should be in qualifying,” the Ferrari Team Principal acknowledged. “We understand that some of our rivals are very, very strong and this is a target we need to achieve very soon in order to make sure that our
potential during the race could be used in a much stronger way.”
Besides, he said that tyre management is going to play an important role in this year’s championship and they can surely handle their tyres well in the race if they perform well in the qualifying.
“If you start in the leading then for sure you can handle the tyres in a better way,” the Italian observed.
Ferrari are currently standing at second place in this year’s constructors’ championship with 73 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Lotus and behind their main rival, Red Bull Racing.
Meanwhile, their driver Fernando Alonso is at third place in the drivers’ standings with 43 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton and behind his major opponent, Kimi Raikkonen. He has performed impressively well in the season so far and has
secured one podium finish and an inspiring race victory.
On the other hand, his teammate, Felipe Massa is presently standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 30 points and is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
