Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari need to stay cool despite losing championship lead – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they need to stay cool despite losing their lead in the drivers’ championship after the 2012 Korean Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso of the Scarlet team has performed tremendously well in the season until now and has remained at the top of the drivers’ rankings for most of the time. However, he is now 6 points behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who has taken the
lead after claiming his third consecutive victory in the last race.
Even though, the Spaniard is no more leading the championship, nevertheless, Domenicali said that they are calm and are looking forward to perform well in the remainder of the season.
Moreover, he said that Alonso has retired in two out of the last five grands prix which has created the difference. Therefore, he insisted that they should not be underestimated as they will fight back in the season ahead.
“First of all we need to stay very cool,” Domenicali said. “Don't forget that in the last five races we have not raced in two, so the situation in the championship would be totally different if we were not out in the first corner. Don't underestimate this
important factor in the light of the championship.”
In addition, he said that nothing can be predicted about the races ahead as the season has brought many surprises until now while he pointed at the current form of their main rival, McLaren.
“We have seen, for example, one of our main competitors seems to be very, very strong up to [Saturday] and in the race was on a different pace with problems that we don't know. So things can turn up in a different way very quickly,” he added.
Besides, he said that they are going to try their best to make the essential preparations for the forthcoming races and are aiming to provide their drivers with a competent car so as to make their mark stronger in the championship.
At present, Ferrari are standing at second place in the constructors’ championship and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the remaining four races.
