Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari need to stay focussed – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they are not going to get carried away with a strong start to the 2013 Formula 1 season and need to stay focussed.
The Italian squad struggled a lot during the pre-season testing programme of 2012. In addition, their technical director, Pat Fry even ruled out the probability of a podium in the last year’s season opener. Nonetheless, they made some remarkable developments
during this year’s testing and performed inspiringly well in the Australian Grand Prix held at Albert Park in Melbourne.
Although, Fernando Alonso and his teammate, Felipe Massa could not secure competitive grid slots for the first race. Nevertheless, they performed amazingly well during the race and managed to score some competitive points for their team.
Alonso secured an impressive second podium finish behind the race winner, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus after setting off from fifth grid position. On the other hand, Massa came fourth after taking a start from the same grid slot. Furthermore, he remained ahead
of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Even though, the Scarlet team is currently leading the constructor’s championship after such an incredible start. However, Domenicali has said that there is still a long way to go and they have to work really hard to win the championship.
“For sure we need to be prudent because this is only the first race,” Domenicali said. “There will be so many things that will change in the next couple of races in terms of understanding, in terms of race preparation, in terms of tyre management.”
Besides, he said that they need to keep their focus on the sound development of their car so as to compete well with their rivals in this year.
“But we need to be focused on our job, maximise our situation and our package because to focus on ourselves is only thing we can do. What the others will do is not something that I can really influence; if we can distract them we will do it but I would prefer
to stay focused on our job,” he added.
