Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari still need to make improvements – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that they still need to make improvements in F2012 so as to fight for 2012 Formula 1 championship title while he said that they have to take a substantial step forward in order to reduce gap to the front.
“I think there has to be a push from all the engineers at home to improve the car,” he said. “If we want to win this championship we have to do a massive step and keep pushing and keep improving the downforce mainly.”
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari secured an incredible second podium finish in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Sunday after qualifying for second grid position. Moreover, the Spaniard is standing at second place in the drivers’
championship with 61 points.
On the other hand, the Scarlet team is still standing on fourth position in the constructors’ rankings. Nevertheless, they have managed to close the gap to the teams in the front after the last race.
Domenicali expressed that they have managed to perform well despite facing difficulties in the start of the season. He added that they aimed to be on the top of drivers’ standings which they have almost achieved until now. However, he said that they still
have plenty of work to do so as make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
“With all the problems that I think we had since the beginning of the season, to be on top of the drivers' championship means that at least we are there. But there is a lot of improvement that we need to bring home because our target has not changed,” he
said.
Nonetheless, he said that he is very much pleased with the team’s performance in the Spanish GP after which they are feeling encouraged for the season ahead.
Over and above, he said that they are trying to make the best of the efforts to make the significant developments and the necessary preparations for the approaching races. He added that they are positively looking forward to the next race which is to be
held at Circuit de Monaco in Spain on May 27, 2012.
