Stefano Domenicali says that they are planning several changes at Maranello – Formula 1 news
Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali, has stated that the team plans to introduce several changes at their factory in Maranello in order to improve in 2013 F1 season.
“For a few months now, we have been working on a programme of reorganization along with the introduction of new methodologies, especially concerning the wind tunnel,” the Italian told the media. “As you know, we are rebuilding the Maranello facility which
will be closed until August. Until then, we will use the Toyota wind tunnel in Cologne. We have also adopted a better method of splitting up the work between those who run the wind tunnel and those who should concentrate more on the creative side of the job.”
Domenicali said they have learnt from the 2012 F1 season that when they work on many things simultaneously, they tend to lose focus and efficiency. He said that during the 2013 F1 season, they will be working on the technical changes taking place in 2014
so they have decided to split the work between two coordinators. He told that Simone Resta will working on the 2013 car and Fabio Montecchi will be developing the car for 2014 while Nikolas Tombazis will continue as the chief designer.
The team principal also conceded that they must enter the new season with a much more competitive car as their president, Luca di Montezemolo, has requested. He revealed that new car will be ready for the launch at the end of January or the beginning of
February.
Recently, the team’s championship runner up driver, Fernando Alonso, had requested the team to push the technical regulations of the FIA to the limit as their rivals, Red Bull Racing, have done this past season. Domenicali has agreed that they need to do
that but they also need to continue on their strong points from the season and make sure that they don’t push so much as triggering illegality. He said Ferrari needs a more creative approach.
Alonso dominated for most of the 2012 F1 season but towards the end Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel took the lead over him and beat him by three points.
