Stefano Domenicali unsure of the impact of Blown Diffuser ban in Silverstone Grand Prix – Formula 1
Stefano Domenicali, the team principal of Ferrari has recently stated that he is not sure about the change in pace at the British Grand Prix where it is expected that the off-throttle Blown Diffusers will be banned.
It is believed that Red Bull Racing performance is going to be affected the most as a result of this ban but Domenicali claims that the change in pace is going to be unexpected and he is not aware of how the order of the teams is going to change starting
from the British Grand Prix.
“I don't know what is going to happen there in terms of what the effect on the performance of our car will be, on the Red Bull and others. Normally Red Bull are very strong because Silverstone is a high-speed track, so we need to wait and see. It will be
interesting,” said the team boss.
The officials of the sport, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) recently revealed before the European Grand Prix that the Blown Diffusers will be banned starting from the British Grand Prix mainly because of the fact that the teams started using
the device to blow gases even when the throttle was not being used.
It was cleared recently that the whole device is not going to be banned but only the practice of off throttle blowing will be banned starting from the upcoming race which is expected to take around 5 tenths of a second away from Red Bull Racing.
“We will find out if the technical changes recommended by the FIA change anything or not. Everyone will lose a bit in terms of performance, so it's a case of seeing who pays the highest price,” said Domenicali.
However, Adrian Newey, the chief designer of Red Bull Racing admitted that the gap between Red Bull and its rivals McLaren and Ferrari will decrease starting from the British Grand Prix and the 2011 Formula 1 season is going to get even tougher as a result
of this ban.
It is now believed that Ferrari and McLaren might get affected as well after this because of which, Domenicali did not play down Red Bull’s chances for the upcoming race.
