Stefano Galvani scores 1st round win against Gianluca Naso – Todi Challenger 2011
Stefano Galvani, Italy, scored a win against compatriot Gianluca Naso in the first round match of the 2011 Internazionali di Tennis dell'Umbria, also known as the Todi Challenger, beating Naso in straight set, 6-2,6-4.
Playing on clay courts, the two went off against each other for the first time, however, Galvani dismantled his fellow countryman in less than 2 hours time to bag a win and walk into the 2nd round.
Moving on with the first round fixture, Galvani struck the 24-year-old early in the match, breaking Naso in his set opening serve. Extending his lead further on, the 34-year-old held a commanding 2 games lead and switched the serve.
Cutting back the lead to 1-2, Naso pulled back a game, however, could not retain and lost the following game, game 4.
Galvani, for the second time in the set, broke the young compatriot to pull him down further in the set and led 4-1. Serving two out the next three games, the Italian old dog took out the set effortlessly and took the match lead
winning 6-2.
The two continued with the second set with Naso serving first again. The 24-year-old opened up the scoreboard first followed by the old countryman levelling the scores immediately. Breaking the young for the first time in set 2,
Galvani mustered game 3 and followed with another game win, game 4, and geared up to 3-1.
Naso served next to cut the lead to 2-3 and broke the old Italian to level the scores at 3-3. However, once again, fell short of retaining his command in the game and lost a breakpoint. With scores now at 4-3, Galvani took away
game 8 and charged the 24-year-old with heavy forehands and cross-court shots. Saving a breakpoint, the world No.192 extended his lead to 5-3 and closed up to his match win. Breaking the final game of the match, the Italian 34-year-old blistered his countryman
and took away set 2 6-3, and the match, 6-2, 6-3 to walk onto the 2nd round of the Todi Challenger 2011.
Aged 34, the Italian world No. 192 started up as a pro back in late 90’s.  Working up his career, Galvani reached his highest rankings of world No.99 on April 30th, 2007. However, he then declined and lost him form as
he grew old. Once again thinking to hit back some powerful and lucky shots, the 34-year-old is trying to get back up and win his last starlight.
Nevertheless, the 24-year-old put up a strong effort but failed to win through. Winning his way into the 2nd round, Galvani now sits to play Diego Sebastian Schwartzman, the Argentine, to fight for a spot in the quarterfinal.
