Steffen Radochla wins fourth stage in 2011 Course de Solidarnosc et des Champions Olympiques
Nutrixxion Sparkasse team’s Steffen Radochla won the fourth stage of 2011 Course de Solidarnosc et des Champions Olympiques on Saturday, July 2.
The race started in Radomsko and ended in Lodz. The German cyclist took a total of 3 hours, 58 minutes and 28 seconds to cover the distance of 169.6 kilometres.
After winning the stage, Steffen said, "I am delighted that it has now finally scored the first win of the season, In the Neuseen classics, second place was already a big step in the right direction, the victory in Poland now huge motivation for me the next
few weeks."
Arnaud Grand of the Telenet – Fidea team was the runner-up and Tom Meeusen of Telenet – Fidea finished third. The third stage winner and the race leader, Marcin Sapa (Polska Szosowa), was unable to hold his victory and took the 48th place.
Stefan Schäfer (LKT Team Brandenburg) was also in good form and tried his best to catch the 77 cyclists, but he failed to maintain his pace and grabbed the 78th spot with a difference of 16 seconds, ahead of Michal Podlaski and Corne Van Kessel.
The seven cyclists, which include Tomasz Marczynski (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Maros Kovac (Dukla Trencin) and Grzegorz Haba (Polska Elita) were disqualified from the stage.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway including Martin Hunal (Ac Sparta Praha), Konrad Tomasiak (Polska Mlodziesowa) and Wojciech Skarsynski (Polska Mtb).
All of them worked together and gained a lead of few seconds over the peloton. Martin tried to increase his pace, but failed and Hunal won the first sprint of the stage.
After a few kilometres, the two riders, Pawel Bernas and Adrian Kurek, were working together but unable to catch Hunal. He maintained his lead in the second and third sprint. Hunal also took the special fourth and fifth sprint of the race.
Marcin Sapa took a lead in point’s classification with 25 points ahead of Steffen and Martin Hunal. Oleksandr Sheydyk (Isd - Lampre Continental) won the overall mountain classification, ahead of Podlaski and Marcin Sapa.
Arnaud Grand (Telenet – Fidea) took the title of young rider classification ahead of Pawel Bernas and Mieszko Bulik.
Marcin Sapa took the overall standing with a time of 15 hours, 59 minutes and 52 seconds. Oleksandr Sheydyk was the runner-up with 14 seconds and Roman Bronis finished third with 20 seconds behind Sapa.
