Steffi Kirchmayr happy to play German Open as a professional
Steffi Kirchmayr is one of the thirteen German players in the field of UniCredit Ladies German Open, scheduled to be played from May 24 to 27, at Golfpark Gut Hausern, Germany.
The field of the German Open has been given some added excitement after taking several German players on board. Officials said that the huge number of local players will make the event livelier.
Some of the prominent German contenders include, Caroline Masson, Elisabeth Esterl, Martina Eberl-Ellis, Miriam Nagl, Anja Monke and Sandra Gal.
Although most of the German stars are competent enough to give a tough time to their rivals, Kirchmayr is expected to grab much of the attention, given her first appearance in the tournament as a professional player.
Speaking to the media about how she is going to fare against strong contenders like Diana Luna, who won the last edition of the German Open, the rookie said that she is happy to see her name in the roster, and will try to do her best.
Analysts said that although it may be hard for underdogs to prove their mettle in the presence of battle-hardened contenders like the defending champion and Laura Davies, the local support will keep Kirchmayr’s hopes up.
The young prodigy said that she likes the course very much, as she has played four editions of the event as an amateur.
She added that the fans will keep her momentum going, as they have been supporting her for a long time.
“It’s amazing. This has always been my favourite tournament and as an amateur it’s a huge event. It’s just an hour and a half from where I live so it’s my home state and feels like home,” Kirchmayr said.
Overwhelmed by the support of her family and a large circle of friends, the rising superstar said that she is aware of the possible pressure, but is glad that so many people are out there to support her.
“I’m really looking forward to it because I like the golf course and so many people are coming to watch. I don’t feel any pressure at all. It’s my first year so it’s not like I’ve got to finish top 10,” she shared.
