Steffon Armitage to join Toulon at the end of the season
Toulon with the impressive run in the season is attracting players from other clubs particularly the European clubs.
Toulon surprised many as they reach the Heineken Cup quarterfinals. Earlier today, Toulon president and owner Mourad Boudjellal has announced their new Flanker Steffon Armitage.
Weighting 103 kg and 1.75 meter tall, Steffon Armitage has signed a two-year contract with the Toulon. Steffon Armitage will move to Toulon at the end of the season. Currently he is playing as Flanker with London Irish who are currently fifth in the Aviva
Premiership table.
The 25 year old starting featuring at the senior level games during the 2004. Armitage joined Saracens in 2004 and remained with them until 2006. Before moving to London Irish in 2006, he appeared four times for Saracens and scored 15 points.
Armitage so far has appeared for 58 times for London Irish since joining them in 2006. Until now, he has scored 50 points. Steffon Armitage will leave the London Irish after remaining with them for six years.
In addition to this, Steffon Armitage also featured for England Saxons and England elite. He played for England Saxons in 2008, with the side ending winning up the 2008 Churchill Cup.
In 2009, he joined the England’s national rugby team, England Elite prior to 2009 six nations’ championship. He made his international debut during the 2009 six nations in England vs. Italy encounter. Injury to Lewis Moody provided Armitage a chance to make
his full international debut.
Later that year, he featured for England in their two test match series against the Argentina. Steffon Armitage’s two year contract with the Club will serious effect his chances of the international appearances. However, he will be the part of the England’s
Rugby World Cup this year.
Toulon currently placed 7th in the French Top 14 lost to Perpignan during the Quarter Finals of Heineken Cup last week. Perpignan came back from first half deficit to leave the newcomers shocked.
Philippe Saint-Andre, the Toulon coach met with the London Irish Flanker Steffon Armitage on the sidelines of the recently concluded six nations. Steffon Armitage has been brought up in the France and this would definitely help him to gel with the team and
environment.
Alongside Steffon Armitage, Toulon will have the likes Matt Giteau (Australian international Fly Half), Bakkies Botha (South African), Julien Dumora (Pau Fly Half), Eifion Lewis-Roberts (Wales International), Sebastien Tillous-Borde (Castres Scrum Half),
and Alexis Palisson (Brive winger).
Toulon is spending in numbers to develop a team, which can lead them to a title win next season. In other news, Mourad Boudjellal is expected to announce the joining Seva Rokobaro (Aix-en-Provence) and Jone Tawake (Tawake) in few days.
