Maarten Stekelenburg’s former employers, Ajax, have confirmed that the goalkeeper has completed his move to Italian outfit, A.S Roma.
The Dutch international recently completed his move to the Giallorossi after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future. The two clubs took very long to agree on an approximately 6-million-pounds deal and after that lack of guarantees
over the payments stopped the 28-year-old from moving to Stadio Olimpico Rome.
The Dutch side have confirmed that a deal has been finalized and the player has moved to Rome.
A statement on Ajax's official website said: "The transfer of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998 from Ajax to Roma has been completed."
Stekelenburg has expressed his delight over the move and is eagerly looking forward to train with Luis Enrique’s side. The 28-year-old added that he is extremely happy to finalize the move and is hoping to get ready before the
new season begins later this month.
Stekelenburg told the reporters, "I'm happy everything is agreed now. The last few days I had to wait and wait. You don't get happy of it sitting at home. I just got the confirmation from my agent that both clubs agreed.”
"Now I can start training with Roma and the real work can start. The Europa League and the Serie A are getting closer and I am looking forward to everything."
Roma manager, Luis Enrique, is a huge admirer of Stekelenburg and was desperately looking to sign him as a replacement for Alexander http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 this summer. The shot-stopper is looking forward
to repay the faith his manager showed in him and has insisted that he will try his best to achieve success at Rome.
Stekelenburg’s name was linked to several clubs throughout the summer; English sides, Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international also thanked the Ajax fans for their
support throughout his almost nine year stay at the club and admitted that they will always have a special place in his heart.
