Stella McCartney-designed Team GB kit released – London Olympics 2012
The Olympic kit for the Team GB athletes who will be participating in the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games has recently been revealed for public viewing.
The launch show of the kit gathered much praise for the uniform from the UK Olympic as well as Paralympic athletes who will be wearing them from July 27, when the Games start, until August 12, at their close.
The designer of the Team GB kit is the famous Stella McCartney who worked in collaboration with the sporting giant, Adidas in order to come up with the outfit.
Shanaze Reade, who is the BMX cyclist, praised the Team GB kit in the following manner while talking to BBC Sport, “Today is the first time we got the kit and it is fabulous in every single sport and we all love it. Instead of having generic sport kit that
looks the same as everybody else, we wanted something that stood out, is performance-enhancing and has us being a part of it. Stella McCartney sat down with us and asked us what we wanted and we achieved that.”
The Olympic kit is mainly designed in blue with a bit of red at the collars. This is something different from the usual colours of the previous Team GB outfits, which had a significant portion of red in them as well. There are some critics who feel that
the lack of redness in the Team GB kit might not sit well with the Welsh.
McCartney, who is the daughter of one of former members of the Beatles, Paul McCartney, has had no experience of designing an outfit for men and this was her first time.
According to McCartney, the designs were made by keeping in mind the individuality of the female as well as the male athletes of the team. Not only that, it was also kept in mind that the kit should deliver both style as well as a performance enhancing feel
to the athletes of the Team GB.
The Olympic uniform plays an important factor in the performance of the athletes as a confident and happy feeling helps a great deal in raising the motivation of the athletes.
