  1. We did this with my girl guides, and we put the decorations in right away. We were using cemement mix for the stones.

  2. If you're using the add-decorations-to-the-top method, then I've heard it can be good just to let the cement mix rest 5 minutes before adding them.

If you're using the upside-down method though, just put the decorations in the mold (on top of a layer of sand if desired, which won't stick), and then pour the cement mix in any time.

    Also, Alden Smith says to:

...Allow 20 minutes of drying time before you want to *write* in your stepping  stone. If the imprint fills with water, then simply smooth it out and wait an  additional 5 minutes or so and begin again.

...Allow 30 minutes of drying time before adding hand or foot prints.

...Allow the stepping stone to dry for at least 48 hours before turning out.

  3. when you are done = and have a smooth surface you will want to push the assessories in right away = don't forget that what sits above the cement if breakable = will break off from walking and wear = so stick with something that you can insert to make level with the top of the cement

Most important dont forget to date them.

    and names or intials
