Stephan Bonnar: Anderson Silva is going to get roughed up – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight contender Stephan Bonnar is more than happy to fight against UFC’s most elite fighter Anderson Silva. Bonnar, who was at the verge of retirement, admits that his shot at Silva was pure luck, and not something he earned. Bonnar knows
well that he stands no chance to beat Silva, but he wants to make sure the middleweight champion goes through a tough time before ending the show.
“Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it,” said Bonnar at an open workout held at the Arcos de Lapa, Rio. “I asked for a big name, and I got the biggest name in the sport. But he’s fighting me at my weight, 205 pounds, and that gives me
an advantage. He’s not fought anyone who will come at him like I have.”
Bonnar has previously said that this fight could either be the last of his career or a career building one. Unfortunately, Bonnar has never got the chance to prove his abilities against a well known opponent. The ‘American Psycho’ is hopeful that he can
bring a fairytale ending to his career by defeating Silva.
“He’s the most accurate striker in the sport, so I know I am going to get punched and kicked and I’m cool with that. But he’s going to get roughed up too. He’s getting punched and kicked – by a much bigger man. If I win this fight, I shock the world. I rule
the world. Life is going to be good Saturday night.”
On the other hand, Silva admired Bonnar’s fighting skills. According to Silva, Bonnar has a huge frame and good BJJ. The middleweight champion even went onto say that he needs to end the fight in early rounds to avoid any surprises from Bonnar. Silva admitted
the fact that he is not aware of Bonnar’s power but confident over his own speed and agility. Hence, Silva wants to knock out the American Psycho as soon as possible, to ensure the latter is unable to use his power to the utmost.
For now, both fighters are preparing hard to face each other at UFC 153.
