Stephan Bonnar excited over fighting Anderson Silva – UFC News
Not many UFC fighters can get the chance to fight UFC greats such as Jon Jones and Anderson Silva. While fighters like Michael Bisping, Brian Stann and Chris Weidman are trying their level best to get a title shot at the middleweight champion Silva, Stephan
Bonnar somehow scored it without any trash-talk and obvious attempts.
Bonnar last fought in November 2011. Since he has been talking of retirement, he believes he has nothing to lose even if he is unable to end Sonnen’s unbeaten UFC streak. However, he still is motivated and thrilled to face the best mixed martial artist in
the world.
“I’m going to do my best. It’s so hard to top the Forrest fight after all those years. It’s a great storybook in and of itself, but what’s my storybook ending?” said Bonnar in an interview with ESPN.com
“I beat Anderson Silva and it’s like the perfect ending. What’s going to top that? Nothing! But after I beat Anderson Silva, if I want to fight again I’ll be given a fight that I can make a lot of money off of. Do I end my career on a storybook ending or
keep fighting and get rich? That’s a great problem to have.”
It seems like Bonnar is already building castles in the air. Defeating Anderson Silva is no child’s play. Many great fighters have come and gone but never could they make the ‘Spider’ fall.
The fight between Bonnar and Silva is definitely going to be an epic one. Even though Silva revealed last month that he will not fight another opponent until next year, he broke his vow in order to save the UFC 153 card, which could have faced annulment
much like UFC 151.
For now, Bonnar believes this is shot to change his life. He was never listed among the top UFC fighters and now he believes it is his time to be there. According to the challenger, if he defeats Silva, he will be able to cash his victory and lead a moneymaking
career, which he never did before. On the other hand, Silva seems quite confident that he will defeat Bonnar by hook or by crook.
