Stephan Bonnar feels he is in a ‘Rocky’ movie – UFC News
Stephan ‘The American Psycho’ Bonnar will face middleweight champion Anderson Silva this Saturday at UFC 153, being held in Rio de Janeiro. This will be the third time Silva will move up to light-heavyweight to fight an opponent. Surely, Silva has always
grabbed wins but this time something is different. Although Bonnar is no match for the Brazilian champion, some analysts fear an upset coming.
In fact, the ‘Spider’ finished his opponents via first round knockouts in his previous light heavyweight bouts. For many, Anderson Silva is undoubtedly the best mixed martial artist to ever live. He currently holds an unbeaten streak in the Ultimate Fighting
Championship.
On the other hand, Bonnar comes with a low profile career. He was at the verge of retirement when President of the UFC Dana White asked him for a match against Silva. Bonnar was excited and he accepted the offer at once, believing it could bring a change
to his career.
In an interview earlier this month, Bonnar revealed that a win against Silva would give his career a fairytale ending. He went on saying that he would be able to make more money once he defeats the middleweight champion, since he will be the one to end the
streak.
However, things are not so easy for the American Psycho, and he knows it well. Bonnar admits that he is an underdog in front of Silva but he does insist that he has a chance of winning.
“I’m this huge underdog in his backyard. It’s a huge opportunity. I’m not the guy who always has the best luck but once in a while, big opportunities come along, and I try to take advantage of them,” he said.
On the other hand, Silva admits the fact that Bonnar’s huge frame can be an advantage for him. Silva wants to end the fight in the initial rounds to ensure Bonnar is unable to use his physical strength to the fullest. Silva knows he is speedier than Bonnar
but the Brazilian fighter is unsure of Bonnar’s strength. Therefore, Silva is hoping to end The American Psycho in the first or second round before he can gain momentum in the game.
