Stephan Wojcikiewicz outshines Maxime Marin in pre quarter-finals of 2013 Ontario Elite Series
Men’s Singles shuttler Stephan Wojcikiewicz stretched his winning streak in fourth round of Yonex Ontario Elite Series and powered his way to the quarter-finals on Friday, January 4, 2013.
He was up against the compatriot player Maxime Marin and their meeting prolonged to 34 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-14 and 21-16.
This encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Toronto, Canada and a decent number of spectators gathered to encourage both native shuttlers.
Stephan, who has been consistent throughout this home event, employed his valuable experience in the game and ruled the court in both sets.
On the other hand, Maxime could not make best out of his top form and crashed after receiving a straight-set defeat.
The battle heated up straight away in the beginning when Stephan launched a brisk attack and confined his opponent in the rear court.
The Canadian campaigner unleashed a flurry of productive strokes and established a decent lead in no time.
He doubled the pressure by adding few uninterrupted points in his total. At the half time, Stephan was in commanding position with a significant margin of 11.
After the mid-game break, Maxime prevailed in couple of rallies and narrowed the gap on points table. He raised his chances by clinching few valuable points but then his back-to-back mistakes brought him down.
Stephan capitalised his rival’s blunders and swept the table with a notable difference in 21-14 score.
The second set was also played in similar manner as both Canadian shuttlers were poles apart in terms of performance.
Initially, Maxime showed some spark and put his competitor under huge pressure but then he lost that touch and allowed the opposing shuttler to storm back into contest.
Stephan did not squander this counterattack opportunity and tipped the scale in his favour with a staggering knock.
He did not show mercy in latter part of the game and kept his challenger under control all the way to final moments.
Stephan maintained a respectable lead of five points and sealed his straight-set victory with 21-16 margin.
Now he is scheduled to meet another compatriot player Charles Pyne in the quarter-final round.
