Stephan Wojcikiewicz unseats Toby Ng in title match of 2013 Yonex Ontario Elite Series
Men’s Singles campaigner Stephan Wojcikiewicz remained invincible in the final round of Yonex Ontario Elite Series and claimed the crown on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
He locked horns with a compatriot shuttler Toby Ng and cast him out by sealing a splendid straight-set victory.
Their encounter was staged at local badminton arena of Toronto, Canada and Stephan wrapped this showdown with an impressive result of 21-13 and 21-8.
The victorious player proved himself the real champ as he did not give his rival even a single counterattack opportunity and secured top spot on the victory stand.
On the other hand, Toby played with right attitude in the beginning and challenged his competitor in all areas of the game but then he lost that touch and crashed out in a woeful manner.
In first set of the match, both contenders played impeccable badminton and remained close on the points table.
After couple of establishing rallies, Stephan showed his real class and made a notable difference with few uninterrupted points.
The Canadian shuttler capitalised this flow and strengthened his grip by adding some valuable points in his total.
At the half time, Stephan was in commanding position with a significant margin of 11 and he did not drop this pace in latter part of the game.
Though, Toby made every effort to narrow the gap but could not match his challenger’s class. This lack of good finishing skills hit him hard and he had to surrender after reading 13-21 score.
The second set was just a formality as Stephan did not show any mercy and sent Toby packing with a staggering knock.
This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and gained an early advantage. He made best out of this initial lead and finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11.
After the mid-game break, Stephan injected more intensity in his attack and confined his opponent in the rear court.
His authoritative approach yielded impressive result as he swept the table with a notable difference of 13 points. Stephan raised hands as champion after piling up a convincing margin of 21-8.
