Stephane Dubois takes the halfway lead at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship
Stephane Dubois held a three-shot lead heading into day three of the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship in Cumberland, Ontario.
The Canadian is on 10-under, following his opening-round 68, with a six-under 66 at the Camelot Golf and Country Club.
The 20-year-old amateur from Bradford started well with a birdie on the 14th and added another on the 16th, after he bogeyed the 15th. However, five birdies in six holes from the 4th then cemented his position at the top.
"I feel pretty good," said Dubois, who finished his sophomore year at Lamar University in Texas this school year. "I know there's a lot of golf to be played but I feel like I've put myself in a position I want to be in. I'm hitting the ball really well".
According to him, he played brilliantly with his irons and his putting further supported his efforts. Moreover, accuracy played a vital role in registering a low score on Wednesday.
"I hit some pretty good iron shots. And the longest putt I made all day was 15 feet, so it wasn't tremendous putting but the putting was solid," he added.
He told that he was happy to get into a strong position while heading to the final two rounds. Yet, he needs to be careful as the game of golf can change even on the final hole sometimes.
"I think that winning a national championship for any player would be a dream. I'm being realistic. There's still two rounds and there's some tremendous players in the field".
Therefore, consistency will be the key if he wants to remain on top of the leaderboard till the final hole on Friday.
Meanwhile, Blair Hamilton also posted a 66 to take the second spot prior to the suspension of the round due to darkness.
On a firm and fast-running layout at Camelot G&CC, Hamilton piled up seven birdies and a single bogey to end the sun-splashed day two. He was ahead of six players tied for the third position.
Alex Carrigan, the overnight leader, carded an even-par 72 and slipped down the leaderboard to share the third spot.
Unlike his opening round performance, his putter did not work well on Wednesday, and he only managed to record two birdies on the front nine against the same number of bogeys after the turn.
