Stephane Robidas receives one-game suspension after game misconduct
If there is one thing that the 2010-11 National Hockey League season has been full of so far, it has been suspensions.
Rick Rypien of the Vancouver Canucks recently received a six-game ban after an altercation with a Minnesota Wild fan, while Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan was suspended for three games
after a blindside hit on Anaheim Ducks forward Dan Sexton.
The latest player to receive a call from NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell is Dallas Stars defenceman Stephane Robidas. Robidas received a game misconduct for boarding in the Stars’ 5-2
loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, 26 October.
The Sherbrooke, Quebec native had previously received another game misconduct for the same in offence on 16 March, 2010 during a game against the San Jose Sharks.
Under the official rules of the league, and player who receives a misconduct for the same offence within 41 games warrants an automatic one-game suspension. The Stars have called up Philip
Larsen from the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars to fill in for Robidas.
Since returning to the Stars in the 2004-05 season after a two-year absence, Robidas has become one of the team’s most reliable defenders. The 33-year-old has also proven to be a very
versatile player as well. During a game in the 2008-09 season, a loose puck broke his jaw, but Robidas continued to play on, missing only one shift in the entire game.
Robidas was rewarded for his intense, hard-nosed play by earning a trip to the 2009 NHL All-Star Game, which was held in Montreal, the home of the team that originally drafted him.
Since being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens 164th overall at the 1995 NHL draft, Robidas has played with the Habs and the Chicago Blackhawks, in addition to having two stints with the
Stars. In 643 career games, Robidas has scored 40 goals and 136 assists for a total of 176 points.
