The AS Saint-Etienne was overlooked by Didier Deschamps as his third-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers but has stressed that he will give his all to cement a place in the national side
Present in the France squad that failed splendidly in the 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757, goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier has not abandoned the idea of making a return to the national side after missing out on a place in this summer’s European Championship.
France national team manager, Didier Deschamps has recently named Les Bleus squad for the upcoming World Cup qualification game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Japan-c2928 in an international friendly.
The new http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 boss has preferred Lille shot-stopper Mickael Landreau over Ruffier in his squad. After a relatively slow start to the current campaign, Ruffier has once again returned to his best and despite missing out on the list, is not throwing the towel
yet.
It was Didier Deschamps who gave Ruffier his chance as a 16-year-old at Monaco and the 26-year-old believes that he is still hopeful of playing for Les Bleus.
“Besides the fact that we both are from Bayonne, Didier Deschamps had me in Monaco. It was he who gave me named me on the bench for the first time, at the age of 16, against Libourne in Coupe de France. He knows what he wants for the good of the France team.”
And in order to once again play for his country, the shot-stopper is not looking for any kind of concessions. The custodian says that he does not aim to be third-choice keeper for the national team and says that he loves the game so the competition for being
France’s number one is a motivation in itself for him.
Currently, Deschamps has a preference for Landreau but that is not going to worry about that at all.
“It gives me extra motivation to work harder.”
And indeed, the AS Saint-Etienne custodian does not need to worry about getting chances for the national side. Since his appointment as the manager of the national side, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 manager has called up players who never had enough
chances to impress under the reigns of Laurent Blanc and Raymond Domenech.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Mavuba-c31174 is one of those players who made it back from the wild and is now an integral part of the national set-up.
After playing at the top level for a few years now, Ruffier is patient and mature enough to understand that his time will eventually come. After all, Mavuba also returned to the national side after being ignored by Deschamps’ predecessors.
