The Saint-Etienne goalkeeper has been in great form for Les Verts this season and the Italian and Spanish sides are looking to take their chances on the Frenchman this summer
In recent years, French Ligue 1 has given Europe some of the best goalkeepers. The likes of Fabien Barthez, Peter Cech and many others have done admirably for their respective clubs after making a name in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
Today, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Mandanda-c34177 and Ahamada are some of the best keepers in France and would certainly be playing in other European leagues in the coming years.
The same can be said for Stephane Ruffier. Ask any fan about the goalkeeper and they will start talking about a person who has become a fan favourite in such a small time. The 25-year-old signed for AS Saint-Etienne from AS Monaco last summer and has extinguished
any possible competition with Les Verts darling Jeremie Janot.
At the ‘Cauldron’, the gifted goalkeeper has become one of the best shot-stoppers in France and is certainly on par with the likes of Lloris, Sirigu and Mandanda.
However, Les Verts could face a tough task in holding on to the Bayonne-born player.
L’Equipe claims that the likes of Italian Serie A side AC Milan and La Liga sides Atletico Madrid and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 are keeping tabs on the player. German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are also monitoring the Frenchman.
And Ruffier also casted doubt on his future at the club by saying that there comes a time in every player’s career when he has to logically look at a proposal.
“Players who say they love the shirt or ‘I’ll go’, make me laugh. You do not refuse a proposal nor quit a club like that (Saint-Etienne).”
However, the player’s agent is being diplomatic about the France international’s future.
“It’s true that I speak with good European clubs who consider him the equal of Lloris and Mandanda. It is very important for his career that he soon plays the Champions League. But Stephane is very well at Saint-Etienne. He wants to continue his adventure,
especially if it’s European.”
With no specific termination clause in his contract, one can expect the aforementioned clubs take action on Ruffier’s case.
